Welcome to our Website

On behalf of the staff and pupils of Ashton Community Science College, I would like to welcome you to the school through the pages of our recently revised web site. We are a school now operating on two different campuses serving two distinct areas of Preston, namely Ashton and Ribbleton

As we begin this new academic year we are again celebrating the best performance of year 11 in their external exams. Most significantly for us this year is that these celebrations are across both campuses with significant increases made.

Improvement has occurred in all ability bands with all our targets significantly surpassed and new records set for the fourth consecutive year. This fantastic achievement came about through hard work from students, staff, parents and governors. Some of the most substantial improvement has been seen on the Ribbleton campus, where records of performance have been set in every academic indicator.

In September 2004 we became the only specialist science college in Preston and we were re-designated in 2007. As a result, our Living Lab was created along with our unmistakable wind turbine. We now have state of the art science facilities and plans for further development are in place to develop our school facilities. Funding from the specialism has allowed us to invest heavily in our ICT infra-structure, resulting in every classroom having its own interactive whiteboard, linked to the internet and Moodle, our virtual learning environment and each faculty its own networked classroom. Inspire, our Hair and Beauty training centre, opened in September 2009, and as well as delivering high quality provision to our own students and to those from many of our local partner schools, will welcome our first Post 16 students into the school this September. This in itself is highly significant for us as we become the first functioning 11-18 school in Preston.

As a School we are committed to the idea of successful education as a partnership between School, students, parents and Governors. Our aim is to establish Ashton Community Science College at the centre of a learning community for children in local primary schools, for parents and local businesses. We believe the School must be a focal point for the Community, providing amenities for the people of the area and thus stimulating local pride in our achievements, raising aspirations and ensuring that the quality of life of students and all those who live in the area is enhanced. All our students are given the support they need in order to achieve their potential. At the same time, they are encouraged to develop skills and interests beyond the classroom by taking part in some of the many extra-curricular activities that are available through participation in our SCAMPs programme.

We fundamentally believe in a fully inclusive education for all learners. Our intake is truly comprehensive and on our Ashton Campus we have a SERF (A Special Education Resource Facility) for those children with hearing impairment, the only facility of its kind in this part of Lancashire. We are very proud of all of our achievements. Our examination results are excellent, showing good “value-added” and our success has been recognised through the school receiving numerous awards, including the most improved Science College in England award in 2010, Investors in People status, Quality in Study Support and numerous Quality Marks.

Quite simply, I believe our school motto captures that way we feel about our school, namely;

Ashton Community Science College, a school to be proud of”.
